I’m always happy to hear that someone is taking a vacation, but could it be possible for you to schedule the posts or have someone else post when you are away. I have prepared meals and posts with the hopes of sharing my results with others only to have been disappointed that I couldn’t connect for yet another week.
I’d also like to see the “missing” LYLs put up so we can share our posts from the last few weeks.
My suggestions for August are:
crab-avocado ravioli (185)
Cafe salle pleyel hamburger (240)
scallop and onion tastes fine (168)
baby bok choy sugar snap & garlic papillote (348)
Diane we have already done the burger :)
I completely agree with Diane and Rose. We all need a break from life now and then, but when the site is down for weeks with no advance notice or explanation, it’s frustrating. We’ve all done our part by keeping up with the recipes. It’s nice that someone took the initiative to start a group on Facebook, but this should be the primary place for posting.
I know many Doristas have offered their support, so I’m sure we can work something out. It’s standard for sites to have multiple, or back-up, administrators. It doesn’t diminish the role of anyone.
How about those missing LYLs? Can we expect to see those soon?
Laurie, A few of us put some August suggestions in the July Nominations post so you should look there for more ideas. Here are mine:
tomato-cheese tartlets (164)
chicken basquaise (210)
tomatoes provencal (344)
peach melba (477)
Again, I second all of Karen’s nominations.
I pasted this from the suggestions that I posted in July’s as Karen noted above.
Five Fridays in August! Woot!
sablé breton galette with berries (464-5)
Dieter’s tartine (p 38)
Minted Zucchini Tagliatelle with Cucumbers and Lemon pg.124
fresh orange pork tenderloin p.273
Tomato-Cheese Tartlets (164) (not a huge tomato fan, but they are in season…)
sablé breton with berries (464-5)
fresh orange pork tenderloin (273)
tomato cheese tartlets (164)
crab avocado ravioli (185)
Thanks Lauri. I think that the French Fridays with Dorie site is in need of a second administrator, I know that several of us have volunteered in the past and it would be nice if we could pick one of those volunteers to help out. We have such a great community here, made up of some really dedicated home cooks who keep right on cooking and posting despite some sometimes funny, and sometimes not so funny obstacles. A missing LYL is a pretty minor obstacle in the greater scheme of things, but it does make it a little more difficult for us all to come together each week.
You’ve done a great job bringing the group together and I, for one, am very appreciative. French Fridays with Dorie has been a great adventure for me. It’s completely understandable that life is going to get in the way and take priority over a FFwD post on occasion. But it would be nice to have a backup for those times. Maybe also someone who could bring back the Questions posts, I miss those sometimes.
Hope you are enjoying your vacation.
Well said, Rosa!
Here’s the suggestions I posted under the July link:
Minted Zucchini Tagliatelle with Cucumbers and Lemon (124)
Warm Scallop Salad with Corn, Nectarines, and Basil (320-1)
Tomatoes Provençal (344-5)
Peach Melba (477)
I think at least Kathy and Rosa had suggestions there that haven’t been reposted here, yet.
Thinking of what’s fresh and plentiful here right now.
Tomato cheese tartlets, p164-5
Chicken basquaise, p 211-12
Warm scallop salad with corn, nectarines and basil, p320-21
Whole cherry clafoutis, p452-3
And here are my suggestions for August:
Minted Zucchini Tagliatelle with Cucumbers and Lemon (124)
Tomato-Cheese Tartlets (164)
Warm Scallop Salad with Corn, Nectarines, and Basil (320-1)
Peach Melba (477)
I am all for the Peach Melba pg. 477,
Warm Scallop salad pg. 320,
Tomato Cheese tartlets pg. 164
Minted Zucchini Tagliatelle with Cucumbers and Lemon pg.124
I’d be happy with almost any of these suggestions….everything sounds great!
All these ideas look great to me. I would be particularly excited about Peach Melba.
I would suggest:
Goat Cheese and Strawberry Tartine (44)
Cafe Style Grated Carrot Salad (107)
Duck Breast with Fresh Peaches (230)
Crab-Avocado “Ravioli” (185)
Moules Mariniere (312)
I’m going to have to rely on one of you to send me the scanned recipes. I had hoped this would be posted before today so Neil could scan them and bring them to France with him for our holiday cooking but he leaves in a few hours and I don’t see the August recipe schedule anywhere :(
Mardi – I can do that.
Cher, I’ve got your back on this. Let me know if you run out of time.
Mission accomplished – thanks for the offer to back up :-)
So there’s not something wrong with just my computer and Dorie’s site, what a relief!
Love all the recipes nominated, looking forward to cooking any and all of them!
Hopefully the quicker recipes will be posted first as we love watching the Olympics in our house.
It would be great if the recipes could go up – many of us needed them the weekend before the “due date” and now it is Monday. I am not traveling to France like Mardi but I am now away on business so missed the chance to get the recipe done……please consider a FFWD backup.
I agree with all of you, where are the recipes? Can we find another way to have them a week before the month ends so we can organize accordingly?
When a group starts to have this lapses, it just becomes a very here and there idea and is not taken seriously…
