Wow, and then they were gone! http://www.4pure.nl/page2/index.php?id=1555311639472339200
I live on a floating island… and ate my share of meringue with “watered custard” as a child! My mother used to make this when we had company over. I’m figuring out how to make a scaled back version to show to all of you. Have a great weekend!
Traded out the ice cream for vermouth poached peaches. I was not disappointed :-)
Have a great holiday, all!
Here’s mine. Did the bonne idée version. Good, but so many steps! And I cheated on the caramel sauce (and skipped the ice cream): http://www.jemangelaville.com/2013/08/29/ffwd-floating-island/
An incredible dessert! We were quite taken!
Such a pleasant surprise!!!
I tried the traditional method. Next time I’m going with Dorie’s oven method.
No matter whether you call them “floating islands”, “îles flottantes”, “oeufs à la neige” or “Schnee-Eier” – this is a very elegant and dreamy dessert!
I cheated and made my favorite meringues, but the Crème Anglaise was by the book! Yummy, yum! :)
Predictably, I just made the Crème Anglaise now, so will be posting tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s take on this recipe – I heard about some fantastic versions, so far this week.
Later than I thought, but the Crème Anglaise benefitted from my procrastination:
Ack. Finally got this one done and there was no way I was going to let this one slip by me.
I’m late again – just returned from sous chef’s surgery this morning. It’s a little goofy, probably due to lack of sleep and white knuckle driving on the way home this morning – love Floating Islands! Somehow I deleted my photos when I was cleaning up camera space :(
Happy Labor Day weekend!
