Another month is cooking by… Time to plan for the next one. Please leave your January nominations in the comments. We’ll take nominations until Wednesday night. Voting will be Thursday thru Saturday. January schedule will be posted on Sunday December 22.

As always, you can refer to the list of recipes we haven’t made yet if you aren’t sure what to choose from.

(P.S. We extended the schedule after the initial posting, so if you thought it said something different before, you are not losing your mind.)

There are 5 Frdays in January, so my 5 picks are:

Guacamole with tomatoes and bell peppers (23)
    Christine’s simple party soups (62)
    Bouef a la ficelle (248)
    Piperade stiry fry (341)
Croquants – yummy little almond biscuits (410)

I’ll second all of these – looks like a good line up. Although, it might be nice to tackle the Paris Brest, too.

I like a lot of Gaye’s picks (above) so my nominations are:

Guacamole with tomatoes and bell peppers (23)
    Christine’s simple party soups (62)
    Bouef a la ficelle (248)
    Paris-Brest (475)
Baked Apples filled with Fruits and Nuts (392)

    (yes, TWO desserts)

Nope, I am still losing my mind. No matter what Betsy says.

SInce there are five Fridays, could we consider using the 5th Friday as a catch-up day? (I am sure that all of us – except Mardi, because she’s awesome like that) probably have at least one recipe to catch up on…

Guacamole with tomatoes and bell peppers (23)
    Christine’s simple party soups (62)
    Orange & Olive salad (117)
    Bouef a la ficelle (248)
Roasted Jerusalem artichokes w/ garlic (353)

I second Cher’s I’ve wanted to make Jerusalem artichokes for a while.

As tasty as the suggestions sound so far, I feel the need to champion a few underdogs. Namely, we are behind on soups (the Simple Party Soups sound great) and fish. Since it tis the season, I’m going to suggest:

    Moules Mariniere (page 312)

  5. Trevor Sis Boom December 16, 2013 at 4:47 PM #

Yes. It is time for Moules Mariniere ladies! And a make up day since there are 5 Fridays.

  6. MARY December 16, 2013 at 6:08 PM #

    Garbure from the Supermarket (86)
    Smoked Salmon Waffles (170)
    Moules Marinière (312)
Baked Apples filled with Fruits and Nuts

After nominations have closed and we’ve voted on four choices, the Administrators have asked Mardi to make a recipe choice for January. So, Mardi’s Choice will be #5

    Happy New Year.

    Seriously? or, Seriously. or Seriously!

I was eyeing the fish recipes and thinking how much my hubby would enjoy them (as I will only be tasting them :) Let’s get em out of the way ! And we need a soup big time in January- they all look great (ok, maybe not the fish ones but go back to the hubby comment…..)

    Moules Marinière (312)
    Christine’s simple party soups (62)
Baked Apples filled with Fruits and Nuts
    Bouef a la ficelle (248)

    Seriously :)

I’m seconding most of Mary’s choices:

    Garbure from the Supermarket (86)
Smoked Salmon Waffles (170) — You can use up any extra gravlax!
    Moules Marinière (312)
Dressy Pasta “Risotto”(369) – been wanting to make this for a while

I wouldn’t really say we’re behind on fish. Just 8 left compared with 7 left on the beef/veal/pork/lamb chapter + 5 from the chicken chapter.

Betsy is our resident statistician. I am happy to yield the floor to a MIT grad.

    Here are my nominations:

Garbure from the Supermarket (86) – January seems like the perfect month for this
    Moules Marinière (312)
    Piperade stiry fry (341)
    Dressy Pasta “Risotto”(369)

  11. Candy December 17, 2013 at 7:45 PM #

    Moules Mariniere (page 312)
    Dressy Pasta “Risotto”(369)
    Smoked Salmon Waffles (170)
    Sausage-stuffed Cornish hens (226-227)
I like the idea of a make-up week – i am woefully behind!
