I love that your blog name is “always add more butter” — I just posted my soup and, what d’ya know…I added more butter! :) Welcome!

    The perfect meal-in-a-bowl for a cold winter’s night…

A piping hot bowl of this would be lovely on this snowy NY morning! At least I have the day off and can watch the snow from the warmth of my house…

It took me a lot longer than I expected, but it was good when it was finally done.

I loved this. It’s definitely going to replace my old onion soup recipe! http://joracooks.blogspot.com/2012/02/ffwd-cheese-topped-onion-soup.html

Best French Onion Soup ever! I made baguettes for the topping and they went perfectly with the soup.

    • alwaysaddmorebutter February 24, 2012 at 5:02 PM #

I tried a bazillion times to leave a comment on your blog and I couldn’t get those made-up words to work for me. I swear to god I was typing them exactly as they were but whatever. I just wanted to say your soup and baguettes looked great and thanks for mentioning the brand of the bowls in the book because I think I need to buy them! Sorry I couldn’t get it to work on your actual blog!

Loved this one (again!) I made it for the very first week of FFWD as a vessel for my leftover gougères

I conducted a comparative study on French Onion Soup and made a few conclusions, including: (1) I need go to France; (2) Don’t like this with chicken broth (3) Tend to agree with the majority that homemade beef stock is the way to go here…Happy Friday!

  9. franklyentertaining February 24, 2012 at 9:27 AM #

This was sort of blah for me. I don’t think I’d use chicken stock again either.

  11. yummychunklet February 24, 2012 at 9:37 AM #

An hour and a half to caramelize half the onions (I was only making enough for two large servings) but worth it!

  12. tammycirceo February 24, 2012 at 9:37 AM #

I love onion soup! It took quite awhile to get any color on the onions, but in the end it was a nice dinner.

Took me forever to caramelize the onions, but worth all the caramelizing time as this soup is delicious…I’m in the beef stock camp…next time.

At dinner last night, this soup was declared by my critic as “the best French Onion Soup” he had ever tasted. That’s something, Dorista’s! Hats off (or, a swig of cognac) to Dorie on this one………

I haven’t done my soup or post yet, but the day is still young! It’s been 90 the last three days and hot, heavy soup has not been appealing.

I thought you might enjoy this post I came across on Hungry Australian and wanted to share! All this great information in one spot –

    http://hungryaustralian.com/2012/02/17/how-to-blog-about-food-useful-tips-for-new-emerging-and-aspiring-food-bloggers/?subscribe=success#blog_subscription-3

Also, still haven’t been able to get to reading TWD posts yet – my dogs surgery was pretty major and yesterday was the first day back on the computer. No cancer though – yeah!

    • Candy February 25, 2012 at 10:36 AM #

Great news about your dog! And thanks for the information – interesting article (though it will take me a while to get through the other links!). I’m totally with you – the TWD posts are daunting! I guess this hasn’t been my week for bloggish things! But it’s still fun!

Dorie said to melt the cheese (Gruyère, Comte, or Emmenthal) under the broiler…well mine didn’t melt but just slightly melted and burned…doesn’t that sound yummy ~ actually it was!

I’m cutting it close with just 15 more minutes of Friday left… I had 20 people (in-laws) for dinner tonight, so I’m just catching before bedtime. I won’t get a chance to catch up everyone’s posts until Sunday night, but hope everyone has a great weekend.

    I LOVED this soup.
